About Us

Since 1947, the Guild for the Blind has served people with vision loss.  We have a long history of developing unique programs that address the unmet needs of the people we serve.  Our staff is professionally trained and certified to provide the highest quality services, with patience, empathy and courtesy.

We work with our community of volunteers, members and partners to effectively deliver our programs to the most people, while emphasizing an individual, client-centered service approach.

Our services are all offered individually or in a small group setting.  Last year, the Guild staff:

  • Trained 134 adults to use computers with adaptive technology
  • Provided individual and group counseling to 65 adults to help them get their lives back on track
  • Traveled to 33 community sites to provide education and training to 664 seniors with new vision loss so they can remain independent and active
  • Offered 91 hours of individual career counseling and 64 hours of professional development workshops for adults seeking employment
  • Educated over 950 professionals on the most effective way to provide services and assistance to people with vision loss
  • Spent 2,262 hours researching a variety of topics and responding to hundreds of requests for information on vision loss and the resources available
  • Worked with 54 volunteers to provide these services

Mission

Through the recognition of individual strengths and aspirations, the Guild for the Blind offers alternative perspectives for living with vision loss. Working together, we tailor our training and support to help every person realize their potential.
