Joan P. Hussey
Scholarship
Through the generous donation of Joan P. Hussey, the Guild for the
Blind offers a learning enrichment scholarship program for students
who are blind or visually impaired.
We understand that skills and information must be reinforced for students
to master and retain their knowledge. As such, this scholarship is intended
to support the efforts of schools by affording children who are blind
or visually impaired access to the technology and training required
to be successful right in their own homes.
Based on the individual needs of each participant, assistance may be
granted on an ongoing, annual basis from early grade school through
high school and/or college. Recommendations from parents, eye care professionals,
and vision itinerant teachers for specific aids and services are strongly
encouraged for us to make the most appropriate recommendations for each
recipient.
To be eligible, students must:
" Be enrolled in an Illinois grade school or high school;
" Have been diagnosed by a medical doctor with a visual impairment
that requires accommodations within their school environment; and
" Have a family experiencing financial limitations.
