This website provides a description of the scope of practice of certified vision rehabilitation professionals and their Code of Ethics.  Knowing best practices will insure your loved one is learning the skills needed to maximize independence.

American Foundation for the Blind

This website is a quick way to learn about practical ways to cope with vision loss.  AFB’s senior site includes helpful short videos with seniors talking about how they do things like eat or put on make-up.  By calling, AFB can also help locate any kind of agency, school or service related to vision rehabilitation within the U.S. and Canada.

E.A.R.S. for Eyes

This non-profit organization provides free audio instruction of activities of daily living.  Lessons are based on current vision rehabilitation practices.  A listing by state and county of support groups for people with vision loss is also available and can be accessed by phone or email.

The Hadley School for the Blind

This distance education school provides free educational courses to legally blind adults and close family members.  Professionals pay a small fee.  Some very helpful courses include:  “Introduction to Low Vision,” “Macular Degeneration,” “Independent Living,” “Blindness Basics,” and “Self-Esteem and Adjusting with Blindness.”
