Technology Solutions and Training

David Flament, the Guild's adaptive technology instructor shows a student how to use the keyboard to navigate the computer.
Computer Training
Adaptive software that enlarges the information on the computer monitor or that provides speech output can enable a person with vision loss to use a computer.

We teach screen-magnification software (ZoomText, MAGic and Windows Magnifier) and screen-reading software (JAWS, Window-Eyes and NVDA) with the most common software programs, including MS Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and web-based email. Previous computer experience is not needed to participate in our training. We offer both classes and individual instruction at no cost. Both types of training will prepare you to use the computer independently—at home, at school or at work.

See our list of upcoming classes or contact David Flament at 312-236-8569 or davidf@guildfortheblind.org for more information.

Adaptive Technology Tutoring
Our technology tutors can help with a variety of adaptive technology--from Apple products to screen-reading and magnification programs to the popular Victor Reader Stream and much more. Tutors are available to help you in person in our Adaptive Technology Center or over the phone. To schedule an appointment or to talk with a tutor, call the Guild on Tuesday for Apple products or Thursdays for all other adaptive technology assistance.

Special Applications and Equipment
We offer training on special applications and equipment through out the year ranging from online shopping and social networking sites to the iPhone and the Victor Reader Stream. Please see our list of upcoming classes or contact David Flament at 312-236-8569 or davidf@guildfortheblind.org for more information.

Educational Workshops
There are many products that can be adapted for use by people with vision loss.  We offer workshops throughout the year to demonstrate and discuss some of the most popular products.  Our Guild Technology Solutions Conference is held each year in April to provide an opportunity to see the latest technology devices and products and to speak directly with representatives of the technology companies about their products. Please see our list of upcoming classes for dates and times or contact David Flament at 312-236-8569 or davidf@guildfortheblind.org for more information.

Tech Exchange
The Guild hosts an online community of adaptive technology users for you to ask questions, share information and learn from other members. Anyone is welcome to join.  Sign up for Tech Exchange and you will also receive our quarterly Tech Times newsletter.
