Creating Employment Opportunities Class
Guild For the Blind Offers Job Skills Training for People with Vision Loss
Chicago, January 27, 2012 -- The Guild for the Blind will again offer a free, three-week job readiness program, Creating Employment Opportunities (C.E.O.). This program helps prepare individuals with vision loss for the current job market. Students learn to confidently self promote their skills and talents by focusing on subjects like networking, interviewing, resume development, and organization strategies. The program will run from March 5 to March 16 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm each day in the office at 65 E. Wacker Place in Chicago.
This workshop is a critical tool for those who are looking for a career change or who are re-entering the workplace after an extended period. There are stressors and issues unique to those faced with vision loss, such as learning how to address a disability in an interview, understanding employment rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act and dealing with new and unfamiliar stressors. The workshop culminates with a mock interview with an experienced human resource professional providing feedback to each participant. The course is also designed for people who are new to the job market helping them build the confidence to be successful. “Our goal is to offset the anxiety that often accompanies job searching. Not only do we offer the latest insight into the basic tools, but through a small group environment, we allow participants the opportunity to discuss how they feel about the process with others who are in the same situation,” says Lauri Dishman, Manager of Counseling Services at the Guild.
Students are encouraged to attend all 11 classes but there is no obligation. For a full course description, email Lauri Dishman at the Guild for the Blind or call at 312-236-8569.
