Guild for the Blind offers help in 'Expanding Your Social Circle'

Guild offers fourth installment in Savvy Socializing series on branching out social connections

CHICAGO, March 16, 2011 – The Guild for the Blind will offer the fourth course in the Savvy Socializing series, entitled "Expanding Your Social Circle," to provide people with vision loss interested in making new friends strategies on where to start.

"Expanding Your Social Circle" is scheduled for Thursday, March 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Guild for the Blind's new location at 65 E. Wacker Place in downtown Chicago. The workshop will help participants create their own paths to find "your kind of people." A variety of resources and places to meet new people will be shared, along with discussion about the distinction of sighted vs. non-sighted friends and whether it should matter.

"Half the battle of meeting new people is determining where those with like minds congregate," said Lauri Dishman, the Guild's Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. "By understanding their own personalities and interests, participants will then gain a sense of where to meet those with similar interests."

To learn more about the Guild's Savvy Socializing series and to register for this workshop, please contact Lauri Dishman at the Guild for the Blind, 312-236-8569 or lauri@guildfortheblind.org.
