Guild Family In The News

So many of our members, staff, volunteers, board and donors are doing amazing things in addition to all they do for and at the Guild. We are highlighting a few of these activities here. If one of your achievements has made the news and you would like to share it, please contact Cheryl Megurdichian.

Howard Wilson

Oak Lawn (June 4, 2011) The time was right to introduce Howard Wilson to the Judo community. Nobody could have guessed the immediate impact he would have. Competing in his first ever Judo tournament, Wilson, a 47-year-old former Marine who happens to be visually impaired, took the 16th Tohkon Classic by storm. Read the full story about Howard and learn more about the Brett Wolf Judo and the Para and Special Olympic judo program.

Angie Geis

(In Common, Spring 2011)As for the subject matter of her photographs, Geis has combined herinterest in the paranormal with the beauty she has discovered in cemebeteries. Chicago cemeteries, many of which are shrouded in lengends of ghosts and spirits, have provided a fruitful setting for many of Geis' photographs. Geis said, "I've always been fascinated with the darker side of life; fall and Halloween are my favorite time of year. So my photography tends to be spooky things, like cemeteries and bleak landscapes. I can feel something there--a spiritual presence." Read the full article on Angie by Dana Navarro as it appeared in Northeastern Illinois University's magazine.
