Susan Joy Gustafson

I began painting five years ago as a way to avoid the grief of becoming blind. For me, watercolor painting has opened my heart to the joy, wonder, and amazement of what can express itself through me as I find stillness.

This year I have painted to practice fearlessness. As my vision decreases, I am committed to painting with the freedom of surrendering to forms and to darkness as light for my journey.

Lacking sight allows me to be simply spontaneous, trusting, and whimsical as I approach each piece curiously.

My guide dog and muse, Mirage, allows me to travel and paint to my heart's content.
