Looking Ahead
The first step is often the hardest
Reaching out for the first time to begin to accept vision loss can be the hardest step you will take in coming to grips with all the challenges you are facing. The uncertainty of what lies ahead, fear of how life will be different and discomfort of feeling inadequate in some way can be overpowering reasons to stay home and do nothing.
Looking Ahead welcomes you into a positive and encouraging place to work through these feelings and to learn how you can get on with your life.
You'll learn ways to look at your feelings with new perspective –gaining a better sense of who you are and where you go from here.
Each week the group explores a subject you've been wondering about – from understanding and accepting your fears to gaining confidence to be yourself and eventually, creating goals and making plans to achieve them. Read all 13 Looking Ahead session descriptions to learn all the topics covered.
Here's what others have said about their experiences attending Looking Ahead:
"I just want to mention how much help you were to me. The stress management was right on the button. …the way the other folks shared with me was one of the high points of my low vision era."
Looking Ahead meets every Wednesday afternoon from February 8 through May 2 at 1:30 pm in the Guild's Counseling Center. A prescreen interview is required to participate in Looking Ahead. To learn more about the Looking Ahead counseling group, contact Lauri Dishman at 312-236-8569.
