Classes
Computer training classes are held at the Guild for the Blind in our state-of-the-art classroom. Our classes last 4 weeks and meet Monday through Friday unless otherwise noted.
The Guild also offers workshops on various topics throughout the year. Workshops in the past have included topics such as accessible cell phones, scan-to-speech technology, and portable notetaking devices. Check the Course Link for the latest on upcoming workshops.
Following are the classes offered on a regular basis:
Introduction to JAWS® for Windows®
This course teaches participants the basic concepts involved in operating and using JAWS® for Windows®. It provides a solid introduction to the Windows operating system, including launching programs and managing files.
It also covers basic word processing including creating new documents, entering text, and saving files. A brief introduction to Internet Explorer is also provided.
MS Word® Using JAWS® for Windows®
This course introduces the participants to MS Word® with JAWS® for Windows®. Skills taught include entering text, using various editing techniques, saving files, formatting text, and printing documents. Participants will also learn how to insert page numbers and dates, create tables, and use the spell- checker.
Internet and Email Using JAWS® for Windows®
This course teaches participants how to navigate Web pages, search the Web, fill out online forms, and send and receive email using Outlook Express®. Setting up and using an online email account is also covered. Participants finish the class having their own online email account.
MS Excel® Using JAWS® for Windows®
This course introduces participants to MS Excel® using JAWS® for Windows®. Skills taught include navigating a worksheet and a workbook, editing and creating a new worksheet and workbook, editing and creating formulas, using the fill command to quickly enter data, and formatting data. The course also covers printing, moving worksheets, and creating and using templates.
Online Shopping with Peapod
Length: 1 day
This course teaches participants how to get to and navigate the Peapod website, browse the aisles, make and use a shopping list, search for products, and place an order.
