Orientation and Organization at Work The Guild’s Polly Abbott will present "Organizing for Peace of Mind," offering tips for systematizing a workspace for maximum productivity. Supplemental Medicare Options to be Available On June 1, 2008, Medicare supplement policies that are available to persons over 65 years of age will be available to persons who become eligible for Medicare because of a disability. Premium rates for these policies will vary. The Medicare Supplement Premium Comparison Guide is accessible online at www.idfpr.com/DOI/medsup/default.asp. A print copy may be ordered at 800-548-9034. The Illinois Department of Insurance will be releasing details of the program prior to an Open Enrollment period in 2008. The campaign aims to ensure that people with vision loss have access to the vital information available to all consumers, enabling them to take medications safely, effectively and independently. Refurbished computers are available to people with vision loss for $100. The computers are Pentium 3 or newer, 600 MHz or faster and have 128 megs of RAM. Computer packages include monitor, keyboard, speakers, modem, sound card and CD-ROM with Windows 98® and a demo copy of Window-Eyes®. Also included are three training tutorials on audio tape: introduction to the computer, using Outlook Express® and surfing the Internet. The fellowship is a two-year track that combines on-the-job experience with formal management training. Applications due Feb. 15. Blind Service Association's (BSA) scholarship applications are available for students living in the 6-county Chicagoland area. Summer Braille Music Institute The National Resource Center for Blind Musicians is accepting applications for its seminar for blind college-bound musicians, held July 14-20 at the Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia, PA. Lighthouse President Retiring The Chicago Lighthouse announced the retirement of current President, James Kesteloot, effective January 2009. Mr. Kesteloot retires after a long and distinguished career in serving people with vision loss. The Guild salutes Jim for all he has done for people with vision loss and expresses our thanks to him.
