Counterpoing $500 "This image was captured at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art where concerts are often held. With the stage and seating set I saw from above an opportunity to reflect upon how other mediums of expression can influence an artist. Musical and painting concepts, in this case the contrapuntal and expressionistic, have had profound influence on my work. Counterpoint infers melodies in relative motion, presented here in the various lines and angular relationships of the image. The expressionistic often offers the emotional and the gestural, as evidence in the elements in the walkways, the two silver domes, and the many diagonal intersections in the alignment of the chairs, which also create relationships of harmony, dissonance, and perhaps discord. Finally this image speaks to our ever changing views on our relationship with each other and every aspect of our envirnoment due to our point of perspective."
Vantage $500 "Made in downtown Los Angeles, this image reflects upon perspective and point of view and how possibilities, as differing as they may seem, are linked and sum up a universal overview. Changing perspectives and the incorporation of boldly contrasting ideas can be necessary for a comprehensive understanding. Acceptance of the dramatically different and the unexpected sometimes offers the best marriage of concepts, as opposites can attract and the seemingly antagonistic can lead to a more complete understanding and outlook. Are we looking up, or down, perhaps out of a flying object, or as part of some convergence? In this image, as everywhere, the whole can be the sum of, as well as greater than the sum of its parts from any vantage."
