Charred $350 SOLD

"I have been legally blind since birth. Using photography, I am able to see the details of the world that are normally blurred. I am able to compose the picture, set the exposure, and the camera's auto-focus captures details that I can't see. Photography to me is a way to think of myself as normal--as an artist--and not as blind."

"On the night of December 29, 1876, a Pacific Express train was headed east out of Cleveland when it crossed a bridge trestle near Ashtabula, Ohio. That night, the trestle collapsed, sending the train crashing into the icy river below. Of the 160 passengers and crew aboard the train, 92 died that night; some on impact, the rest in the fire that ensued when the oil lamps and wood stoves ignited the crushed cars. Following the official inquest into the incident, bridge engineer Charles Collins shot himself and was buried in a crypt near the memorial for the train wreck. To this day, in photographs of the crypt of Charles Collins, the white stones appeared charred and blackened, echoing the disaster that drove him to suicide."

Field $350

"The field of white headstones strewn across the wide landscape makes me feel at peace with life. Cemeteries don't have to look so morbid and sad and this proves it. This photo was taken at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lake Forest, IL."
