2005 Passionate Focus Art Exhibit Passionate Focus is an annual art exhibit developed by the Guild for the Blind in 2002 as one way to further its mission of promoting positive attitudes about visual impairment and promoting the dignity of its members. It is open to artists of all ages who are legally blind. A jury of professionals drawn from the art world reviews the submitted work. They do not know about the artist's particular impairment and judge the work based solely on its artistic merit. The selected one- and two-dimensional pieces comprise the exhibit. Jurors for the 2005 exhibit are David Klamen, Professor of Fine Arts at Indiana University Northwest; Tony Tasset, Professor at the School of Art and Design at University of Illinois at Chicago; and Chuck Thurow, Executive Director of Hyde Park Art Center. Art provides a common ground for individuals from all walks of life. It allows individuals who are blind the opportunity to demonstrate, in a more eloquent way than words can, that blindness takes their sight, but nothing more. They still have their own unique vision, their own dreams and goals, and their own special skills and talent. It makes the community aware of the abilities of people who are visually impaired, rather than focus on their disabilities. Passionate Focus 2005 will be on display at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago. The exhibit will open with a reception on the evening of Thursday, September 15 and will be on display through Sunday, November 13. Thirty-nine artists submitted 175 pieces for the jury's consideration. Submitting artists are from all across the United States and include the first international entry from Turkey. The jury selected 33 pieces to comprise this year's show.
