Kurt Weston I created this work while photographing in the Chicago subway stations. I was very intrigued by the abstractions I perceived in the signs and symbols posted on the wall...how the signs stood out against ambiguous backgrounds, almost as if floating in space. I also discovered water marks and stains on the subway walls which appeared representational of other images I had seen before I became legally blind. These water marks and stains also gave the impression that they were floating in the eternal darkness of space. Because my sight is greatly impaired, the way I perceive forms, textures and depth of field is greatly distorted. My sight allows me to view the world similar to how an impressionist painting would look. Although I am legally blind, I do all my own photography, film processing and printing, using traditional photographic techniques. Through the use of magnification devices I am able to work independently. 2-D $375
