 Russell Schermer

Russell has been totally blind since birth. He has been working with clay since he was a child. He creates his work with the same tools he uses to view the model—his fingers. In order to make replicas, Russell uses small die-cast models as guides, or preferably the actual car itself. Modeling the car out of clay can take anywhere from five to eight hours, excluding the firing process, glazing, and adding the chrome. The only help he receives with his trade is some assistance in choosing glaze, since he has no concept of color.

"After viewing the car by feel I try to put my mind's image into clay and these cars are the results. I get a great deal of pleasure in how they come out."
