David Simpson (Chicago, IL)

Cloud Riding (2003) Like many of my works, "Cloud Riding" was an exercise for my eye sight. Capturing these images, at times, was much like trying to force clouds through the eye of a needle. One can't force these things. One just has to let it happen.

If I let myself enter into the quiet mind set of the cloud rider, depicted in this picture, I seem able to see more and more of what I am looking at given my sight limitations. When I allow for this stillness to settle in, it seems as though the messenger bird of creativity is freed into my psyche and then I am allowed to deeply concentrate on patterns. Patterns such as lace -- my symbolic example of the beauty of "interconnectedness" of spirituality and the mindful pragmatism that I must enlist every day of my life when facing the dangers of just crossing the street.
