Martha Cowden (Dayton, OH)

April Showers (1999)

Study in Triangles (1998)

I have been legally blind since the age of 32. Since I have no vision, all my work is tactile. I rely totally on my sense of feel to create my one-of-a-kind pieces. I really enjoy the entire process I use to make my hand-built pottery. Clay, natural fibers, handspun yarns are used in various combinations to achieve different effects. Texture is such an important part of my work, and manipulating the clay and spinning the yarns is very satisfying.
